Lafayette, CA – Northern California’s Hidden Gem

Lafayette, California, is a small community town in the foothills east of the San Francisco Bay, nestled between Walnut Creek and inland and Oakland on the other side of the hill range. The town and region totals approximately 24,000 residents and serves as a well connected bedroom community to San Francisco and the Bay. With a main interstate highway as well as a rapid transit train system running adjacent to the city, there is no problem for residents to get just about anywhere from Lafayette if needed. However, most traveling through don’t see much of the city because the surrounding hills literally provide a geographical curtain on the area. That seclusion is what makes Lafayette so desirable as a place to live. Crime in Lafayette is minimal, usually involving drunk driving, traffic violations, and petty theft at most.

The median income for the area is approximately $120,000 and the properties regularly reflect this valuation in pricing. The city has four elementary schools and four private schools, one middle school, and one high school. Additionally, just up the road is the highly reputable Saint Mary’s College in the town of Moraga, CA. Additionally, the proximity gives access to U.C. Berkeley, University of San Francisco and more. Not surprisingly, many move to Lafayette to raise families without the worries of the big city but still close enough in Northern California for careers.
