Keep These Tips In Mind To Get To Know Your New Neighbors

Meeting New Neighbors

One of the hardest parts of moving to a new neighborhood is moving away from the friends that you have made. Creating strong relationships with your new neighbors can help make your transition into the new neighborhood much easier. Keep these new neighbor tips in mind to start creating long lasting relationships.

  • Knock on the door – walking up and knocking on your neighbor’s door can be one of the easiest ways to get to know them. Keep in mind that you will have to do some warm up before you walk right up. Always wave when you go by and try to time your visit for a convenient time, such as on a weekend afternoon when they are less likely to be in the middle of something.
  • Send a letter – if the thought of knocking on someone’s front door starts to raise your anxiety level, send a letter instead. A handwritten letter introducing yourself and inviting them over for a cocktail or cup of coffee when it is convenient for them can help to start a long-lasting relationship.
  • School bus social – if your kids ride the bus to school, walk with them to the bus stop for the first few days. You will most likely run into at least one of your neighbors who can let you know more about the area. Since people are always excited about talking about their kids, you won’t have to worry about dealing with any awkward silences.
  • Go for a walk – go for a walk around your block during the weekend. People are much more likely to be outside and open to a conversation when they are not rushing off to work in the morning. If you have a friendly dog, bring them along to start up a conversation.
