Ten Things You Must Do To Prepare Your Home For The Winter

Winter maintenance is a very important step in preserving the value of your home.  Therefore, it’s your responsibility to put together a winter maintenance checklist and to ensure that it gets done.  Here are a few winter maintenance chores that will help keep your home in great condition.

1.  Check the exterior of your home for any peeling paint and any weathered or cracked caulking and replace if needed.

2.  Clean the dirt and debris out of your gutters.  Clogged gutters can cause ice dams which will generally result in damage to your home.

3.  Caulk around all your windows and doors.

4.  Inspect your roof.  If you see any cracked, damaged or missing shingles, replace them.

5.  Have your fireplace and chimney cleaned and inspected for safety before using.

6.  Check the pavement on your driveway and if you find any cracks they should be sealed.

7.  Change the direction of your ceiling fan to create an upward draft that will help redirect the warm air from the ceiling.

8.  Cover your exterior air conditioning unit.

9.  Properly clean and store all your lawn equipment.

10. Inspect your porches and patio decks then repair and seal where necessary.
