Selling Your Home This Holiday Season

The holidays are officially here! If you are selling your home, it is important to make the holiday season work for you. Selling your home with holiday décor is a balancing act. Keep these tips in mind to ensure that your home will move off the market as fast as possible, this holiday season.

  • Do not overdo it – do not display all of your holiday décor. It will overwhelm buyers and will not allow them to see the home. Use subtle touches, such as an evergreen wreath or pinecone centerpiece to bring a festive feeling to your home, without overdoing it.
  • Stick with a secular theme – overly religious decorations can be very off-putting for many buyers. Stick with secular decorations, such as general “happy holidays” themes.
  • Use common sense – when putting up decorations, make sure to avoid any items that may be seen as controversial.
  • Keep the walkway clear – if you are decorating your walkway or porch, make sure that the decorations do not spill into the path of your home. If potential buyers have to step over snowmen to get into the house, they will not have an open mind when they get to the door.
  • Do not hide your home’s assets – be mindful of where you put your decorations so that you do not hide the best assets of your home. Use decorations to highlight certain areas of your home, such as the fireplace and handmade mantle.
